Customer Display — POS LED Pole Display

The customer display is Genu's feature that writes the amount due to an LED pole display connected to the cashier PC over a serial port, so the guest sees what to pay without looking at the cashier's screen. Genu Desktop sends the check total, the amount remaining after each part of a split payment, and the basket total during counter sales; when the check closes, the display clears. During setup, the port and speed are chosen in Genu Desktop settings. If you don't know which port the display is on, the ports can be scanned automatically: each one is tried in turn and you pick the port where text appears. Because the display is driven with the ESC/POS command set, no separate driver program is needed. The customer display works on a till running Genu Desktop and does not affect the cashier's screen or receipt printing.

Frequently asked questions

Will the price display behind my till work with Genu?

Yes, with serial customer displays that use the ESC/POS command set. Genu Desktop writes the amount directly to the display.

I don't know which port the display is on. What do I do?

Scan the ports. Genu tries each one in turn; just pick the port where the text appears.

What does the guest see when the bill is split?

The remaining amount. It updates after each payment in a split.
