Thermal Printers and Kitchen Tickets — ESC/POS over USB and Network

Thermal printing is how Genu prints checks, kitchen tickets and bar tickets on ESC/POS-compatible 58 mm and 80 mm printers through Genu Desktop on the cashier PC. Printers connect three ways: USB (also directly, without a Windows driver or print spooler), network (Ethernet/Wi-Fi, IP:9100) or as a Windows system printer. XPrinter and POS-80 type printers run in the field; Rongta, Hoin, Epson TM and other ESC/POS printers are supported with the same command set. To stop garbled Turkish characters on Chinese-made printers, their Chinese mode is switched off on every ticket; a calibration slip prints every Turkish code page on one sheet and you pick the right line with one click. Categories map to stations and stations to printers: grill orders go to the kitchen, drinks to the bar. If a printer can't be reached (cable out, powered off or not answering on the network), the job moves to a backup printer. Jobs wait in a local queue and print exactly once, even after an outage. Thermal printing is part of the Pro plan.

Highlights

  • ESC/POS 58 mm and 80 mm thermal printers over USB, network (IP:9100) or as a Windows printer.
  • Separate printers for till, kitchen, bar and delivery; category → station → printer routing.
  • Backup printer: if a printer can't be reached (cable out, powered off or not answering on the network), the job moves over automatically.
  • Turkish character calibration slip, plus writing the code page permanently to XPrinter printers.
  • Logo, QR code, barcode, reverse-print table banner, large order number and paper cut on tickets.
  • Buzzer that sounds when a kitchen ticket prints (three command types, chosen with a test ticket).
  • Local print queue: tickets are never lost when the internet or PC goes down, and never print twice.

How It Works

  1. 1

    Install Genu Desktop

Install it on the cashier PC and pair it with the 6-digit code from the panel.

  2. 2

    Add the Printer

Choose USB, network or Windows printer and set the paper width to 58 or 80 mm.

  3. 3

    Map Stations

Assign categories to stations and stations to printers; set a backup printer.

  4. 4

    Print a Test

Check Turkish characters with the calibration slip and pick the buzzer command with a test ticket.

Frequently asked questions

My XPrinter prints broken Turkish characters. Can that be fixed?

Yes. Genu switches off Chinese mode on every ticket; you pick the right code page from the calibration slip and, on XPrinter, write that setting permanently to the printer.

Do I need to install a printer driver for USB?

No, it is optional. Genu Desktop can write straight to a USB printer without a Windows driver or print spooler, or use it as a Windows system printer if you prefer.

Can kitchen and bar tickets print on different printers?

Yes. Categories map to stations and stations to printers, so each item prints on its own station's printer.

Which printer brands work?

ESC/POS-compatible 58 and 80 mm thermal printers. XPrinter and POS-80 type printers run in the field; Rongta, Hoin, Epson TM and other ESC/POS printers are supported with the same command set.
